All roads led to Duagh last Wednesday evening for the U12 North Kerry shield final where Duagh took on ballyduff in what was a glorious evening for football. The early exchanges were very even with the score after 15 minutes was Duagh 1.0 a goal scored by Saoirse Dillon to Ballyduff’s three points, all scored by the ballyduff midfielder Eabha O Connor .
The last 10 minutes of the first half belonged to Ballyduff with Eabha O Connor driving them forward from midfield who kicked a further three points and Duagh replied with two points of their own by Saoirse Dillon. Only some outstanding defending by Amy woods in the Duagh back line kept the score down. Half time score ballyduff 0.6 and Duagh 1.2.
In the second half a rejuvenated Duagh team came out and completely took over, with their two midfielders Hayley Flynn and Amy Sheehy running at the ballyduff defence with pace and scored a further goal and 2 points, the goal scored by Saoirse Dillon gave Duagh a 4 point lead . But in typical Ballyduff spirit they came back at Duagh and brought the score back to a goal and only for an outstanding save by the Duagh keeper Leyra Moriarty the scores would have been level.
In a breakaway down the field Duagh secured the game with a great goal scored from Aoibhínn Harte low into the bottom corner, the final score was Duagh 3.4 to ballyduff’s 0.7. A Great game and credit to both teams, the trophy was presented to the joint Duagh captains on the night Hayley Flynn and Aoibhinn Harte by Eamon Moran (ref)
